The young saxophonist-composer Wayne Escoffery makes an auspicious debut on Savant Records with VENERATION, an intensely musical set captured live at the NYC jazz-Mecca, Smoke with the great vibist JOE LOCKE. In addition to performing with his own Quartet and Quintet, Wayne Escoffery currently performs locally and tours internationally with Ben Riley's Monk Legacy Septet, The Mingus Band, Abdullah Ibrahim's Akaya, The Carolyn Leonhart Group, and Jazz At Lincoln Center's: The Music of Miles Davis and in 2006 he secured one of the most coveted gigs in jazz: a frontline position in Tom Harrell's working quintet, soon to be heard on HighNote Records. With one original composition and music by Jackie McLean, Booker Little, Dizzy, Ellington and others, Wayne Escoffery displays why is he is one of the most exciting and creative saxophonists in jazz today.
