Guitarist Randy Johnston possesses one monster set of chops. David 'Fathead' Newman knows it; he stopped by for Randy's record. Joey Defrancesco knows it; he is also on hand. Veteran Houston Person knows it too; he insisted on producing the session. So infectious was Randy's swing that Houston couldn't resist picking up his tenor for a track. Randy has selected a handful of standards ("A House is Not a Home", "Close to You") Some jazz classics ("Detour Ahead") and two originals for his second HighNote recording and he and his illustrious cohorts rip through them in fine fashion. Recorded at the Famed Van Gelder Studio where they know more than a little bit about recording Hammonds, guitars and tenors.
