Savant CD 2029 Norman Simmons The Art of Norman Simmons $13.00 Order | ||||
Norman Simmons came out of Chicago in distinguished keyboard company, along with his contemporaries Junior Mance, Muhal Richard Abrams, Jodie Christian and Ramsey Lewis. Quickly, Norman became the accompanist of choice of an impressive list of jazz singers, including Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, Anita O'Day and Joe Williams. Nothing hones a pianist's sense of color, rhythm and harmonic subtlety more than accompanying vocalists. Norman brings that experience to his solo playing, giving unique insight and meaning to any song he chooses to play. Joined by Eric Alexander on tenor, Henry Johnson on guitar and others, Norman leads the group through a thoughtful program of standards and originals, including "My Silent Love", the haunting "Harlem Nocturne", as well as a few of his own tunes, not least among them, "I'm Your Boogie Man". Norman Simmons- piano; Eric Alexander- tenor saxophone; Henry Johnson- guitar; Paul West- bass; Paul Wells- drums Tracks: I'm Your Boogie Man; Joe; There Are Such Things; My Silent Love; Stiffed; Harlem Nocturne; 6 AM; The Hour of Parting; Medley: I'm Getting Sentimental Over You/Roscoe Franbro. |
