In his fifth release on Savant Records, alto saxophonist Jim Snidero draws from a quarter-century of touring to create a compelling sonic trip across America. "Main Street" is inspired by towns throughout the USA and features Snidero's "extraordinary tone" (Thomas Conrad, Jazz Times) and one of the hippest rhythm sections in Jazz; Fabian Almazan, Linda Oh and Rudy Royston. The result is a cohesive yet spontaneous concept album that deftly balances both tradition and modernism. "Main Street" includes five originals inspired by Redwood City (Snidero's birthplace), Walla Walla, Duluth, Saratoga Springs and Oxford (MS), as well as Gil Evan's dark "Las Vegas Tango," the elegant "Autumn in New York" and a surprising version of the cowboy lament "The Streets of Laredo". It's an attractive mix of grooves and moods that lets this talented, young rhythm section stretch out and show that they mean business.
