Here is the latest jazz communiqué from the banks of the Monongahela. Previous messages came from Erroll Garner and Art Blakey and this time the message is from Pittsburgh native JIMMY PONDER. From his days with Charles Earland and Lou Donaldson through to his solo career of today, Jimmy has kept the jazz fires burning in southwestern PA playing his own unique guitar style. Weaned on Charlie Christian and nourished by Wes Montgomery, Ponder's latest HighNote record features long-time friend, Gene Ludwig on organ. With Cecil Brooks III providing the sizzle cymbal, this is one of Jimmy's best recordings to-date - as congenial and ingratiating as an old friend. One might say Jimmy Ponder strikes all the right chords.
