Sweet Love Of Mine

Who knew this was to be John Hicks’ last recording? John was his usual affable self at Rudy Van Gelder’s last spring where he was joined by a familiar cadre of musicians: Victor Jones, drums, Javon Jackson, tenor, Curtis Lundy, bass, Ray Mantilla, percussion and his wife, Elise Wood, on flute. All dear friends with whom John shared countless appearances on the bandstand. The repertoire was reflective ballads done solo, some duets and quartets along with a handful of Latin things done with percussion and reeds.

John Hicks, piano; Javon Jackson, tenor saxophone; Elise Wood, flutes; Curtis Lundy, bass; Victor Jones, drums & Ray Mantilla, perc.

Tracks: One Peacful Moment; I Guess I’ll Hang My Tears Out To Dry; Sweet Love of Mine; The Things We Did Last Summer; Once I Loved; Hold It Down; Mambo Influenciado; I Remember Clifford; Peanut Butter Two; Sunset Blues.
