Savant SCD 2069 Joe Chambers The Outlaw $13.00 Order | ||||
Joe Chambers is one of the drummers from the fifties and sixties who, along with Max Roach, Art Blakey, Jimmy Cobb, and Tony Williams has influenced an entire generation of drummers. During the 60's Chambers contributed to many Blue Note recordings that have since become classics; sadly, however, his recordings as a leader have been few and far between. Here in his Savant debut, Chambers offers a release that showcases his abilities as a multi-instrumentalist and composer. Playing not only drums, but piano, vibes, marimba, synthesizer and writing all the arrangements and composing three of the tunes himself, Chambers The Outlaw manages to look to the past while, at the same time, keeping a solid eye on the future. While Joe has his attention on other instruments he has asked the fabulous percussionist Bobby Sanabria to take over those duties. Sanabria displays no small amount of his own versatility here, playing Brazilian, African and all sorts of exotic percussion instruments. Tracks: The Outlaw; Tu-Way-Pock-E-Way; Come Back To Me; I Think Its Time We Say Goodbye; In a Sentimental Mood; Bembe Escapade; Bahia; Poinciana. |
