HighNote CD 7079 Chris Connor Haunted Heart $13.00 Order | ||||
The history of jazz vocals extends back perhaps even farther than jazz instrumentals and in that long history you find a lot of pretty impressive names. None are more illustrious than that of Chris Connor. HighNote has a commitment to the art of vocal jazz, maintaining relationships with Etta Jones, Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy and others. It is only natural that Chris Connor make her new recording home at HighNote. For her HighNote label debut Chris has brought along her long-time pianist and arranger Mike Abene. Making up the front line is the imaginative Ingrid Jensen on trumpet and flugel and Bill Easley providing the obbligatos on tenor. Chris Connor has always selected varied and interesting programs, and this recording is no exception. A few standards ("Stairway to the Stars", "But Not For Me") rub elbows with rarely-heard gems such as "Drinking Again", "I Wished on the Moon" and the evocative "Snowfall" penned by her former boss, Claude Thornhill. This is more than just a release, it is a musical event.
