An old adage says, "You are the company you keep". Well, alto saxophonist Bruce Williams has been keeping only the best company for what seems like his entire musical career. A student of Rufus Reid, Joe Lovano, and Harold Mabern, a sideman with Lionel Hampton, Jerry Gonzalez and Jimmy McGriff, a colleague of Russell Gunn and the Marsalis Brothers, Bruce has done just about it all. His friend Russell Gunn joins him on his latest Savant record, produced by drummer Cecil Brooks III. Bruce shows his versatility with tunes like the bluesy "Elijah's Blues", the swinging, Parker-esque "Three Crows On Guard" and the unique take on "You Are So Beautiful". This is a hard-bop session you won't want to miss.
